Baker owns Wayne Baker Farms and has been in peanut production for more than 40 years. Baker’s wife Joanna is the owner of a local embroidery store and they have four grown children, 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Baker has previously grown corn, potatoes, alfalfa, wheat and other crops and is currently involved in growing Valencia peanuts. Baker attended Eastern New Mexico University and is past president and current secretary/treasurer of the New Mexico Peanut Growers Association. He also serves on the Peanut Standards Board. In the industry and community, Baker has served as chairman of the local Farm Bureau and as a board member on the New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau; New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum; and the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Board. Baker is also a part-time commercial real estate agent and a former chairman and current member of the local Rotary International club.
