Every business in every
industry needs research and development to stay competitive
and stay in business. Alone,
producers can’t afford to experiment on fungicide rates
or cultivar yields. Together, growers pool their check-off
dollars so scientists can do the research and producers can
get the results. You’re not competing against the
farmer down the road or over in the next county anymore. Now,
all USA producers, regardless of where you live, are competing
against farmers half a world away.
Since 2000, the National Peanut Board has invested $12 million, on more than 200 production research projects. Production research has served farmers well, and can continue to deliver
value to USA peanut producers in the future. While funding
for peanut research is drying up, NPB has invested heavily
in production research that can hold down costs while increasing
yields. A dime here, a dollar there — when it comes
to research, it all adds up to keeping
peanut production affordable for farmers.
Just as farmers walk the
fields, we’re
taking a walk around the Peanut Belt to sample some of your
research. So we selected one project from each major
peanut-producing state for our profiles in research. Step
by step, production research can keep USA peanut farming competitive
on the world market.
