Talking about Introducing Peanuts is the First Step to Peanut Allergy Prevention

Sep 29, 2023

The best way to prevent peanut allergies is to introduce peanut foods into a baby’s diet between 4-6 months of age. This data is presented in the LEAP study and has been part of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans since 2020. Parents and caregivers may have questions or concerns about this process, and knowing they can turn to their healthcare providers to answer those questions is important.

As clinicians, being equipped to have a conversation about when and how to introduce peanut foods means that you can provide parents and caregivers the tools they need to feel confident and empowered to take the necessary steps to prevent peanut allergy for their child.

The National Peanut Board worked with parents and content creators Jordyn Rush, Jamie Yang, and Madi McDaniel to have conversations with clinicians Dr. Theresa Jacobs, MD; Brian Bizik, PA; and Sarah Schlichter, RD; to share the process on their social media platforms. This video is an example of how a conversation with a parent can go, and the information they may be looking for in a consultation about allergy prevention.
